On Friday, March 25, 2022, the launch of the book “Commodity Exchanges: Concepts, Tools and Guidelines” recently published by Professor Issouf Soumaré of FSA ULaval, and a high-level panel discussion on the role of commodity exchanges in economic development took place simultaneously in Quebec City, London, Abidjan and Kigali. Professor Issouf Soumaré is the President-Founder of SOUMARÉ UNIVERSITY and INSTITUTE SOUMARÉ OF FINANCE.

The high-level panel was composed of: Prof. Victor Murinde, Director of the Centre for Global Finance at SOAS University of London, Prof. James Eaves, Full Professor  at FSA ULaval, Dr. Edoh Amenounvé, CEO of the Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières (BRVM, the Regional Securities Exchange) and the Central Depository/Settlement Bank (DC/BR) (West Africa), Dr. Mama Keita, Director of the East Africa Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and Prof. Issouf Soumaré, Director of the Laboratory for Financial Engineering of Laval University and President-Founder of SOUMARÉ UNIVERSITY and the INSTITUTE SOUMARÉ OF FINANCE.

During the roundtable, the high-level panel discussed the role of commodity exchanges in the economic development of emerging countries. The discussion focused on the optimal design of such exchanges and their operationalization, as well as their role in adding value to the commodity value chain. Experts shared their ideas and experiences in establishing and operating commodity exchanges in developed economies and emerging markets.

The event was co-organized by the Laboratoire d’ingénierie financière de l’Université Laval, FSA ULaval, the Centre for Global Finance of SOAS University of London, the Bourse régionale des valeurs mobilières (BRVM) (West Africa), the East Africa Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
